Description

🥩 Alaska-Grown Quarter Beef Share

$11.50/lb — Based on Hanging Weight

Stock your freezer with grain-finished Alaska beef from Mugridge Hay & Cattle in Delta Junction, Alaska.

🌾 About Mugridge Hay & Cattle

Your beef comes from Mugridge Hay & Cattle in Delta Junction, Alaska, operated by Scott Mugridge.

Mugridge Hay & Cattle is an Alaska agricultural operation with cattle, hay, and grain production.

What makes this partnership special to us is that the cattle operation is part of a larger working agricultural operation. Hay and grain production are part of the farm, helping support the livestock operation.

The cattle are raised in Alaska and grain-finished before processing.

We’re proud to work with an Alaska producer and bring that beef directly to Alaska families through Alaska Grocery Co.

🌾 What Does Grain-Finished Mean?

Grain-finished beef means cattle receive grain as part of their finishing diet before processing.

The finishing period helps develop the characteristics many customers look for in beef, including:

  • Marbling
  • Rich flavor
  • Tenderness
  • A fuller, more traditional grain-finished beef profile

Mugridge Hay & Cattle’s involvement in grain production makes the cattle and crop sides of the operation part of the same agricultural story.

❤️ Why Buy Alaska-Grown Beef?

When you purchase this quarter share, you’re doing more than filling your freezer.

You’re supporting an Alaska agricultural operation and helping keep more food dollars within our state.

At Alaska Grocery Co., our mission is:

Support Alaska farms.

Strengthen local food systems.

Make Alaska more self-sufficient.

We want to make it easier for Alaska families to know where their food comes from and have access to beef raised right here in Alaska.

🛒 What You’re Purchasing

When you order this product, you are purchasing a quarter share of a whole beef animal.

The beef is priced at:

$11.50 per pound of hanging weight

Mugridge cattle are generally around 650–700 lbs hanging weight as a whole animal, although individual animals can vary.

Based on a possible whole-animal range of approximately 600–750 lbs, a quarter share could be approximately:

150–187.5 lbs hanging weight

At $11.50/lb, that means your estimated total purchase price could be:

Estimated Amount
Quarter share 150–187.5 lbs hanging weight
Estimated total price $1,725–$2,156.25
Deposit today $1,500
Estimated remaining balance $225–$656.25

These are estimates only. The actual weight of your quarter share will vary from animal to animal.

Your final price is calculated using the actual hanging weight of the quarter share you receive.

🥩 What Might Be Included in Your Quarter Share?

One of the best parts of buying a quarter share is having a variety of beef cuts stocked in your freezer.

Depending on the animal and your cutting instructions, your quarter share may include:

Steaks

  • Ribeye
  • New York strip
  • Sirloin
  • Other steak cuts

Roasts

  • Chuck roast
  • Round roast
  • Other roasts

Other Cuts

  • Ground beef
  • Stew meat
  • Short ribs
  • Brisket
  • Soup or marrow bones

Estimated Packaged Quantities

For planning purposes, you may see approximately:

  • Ground beef: 40–55 lbs
  • Steaks: 15–22 lbs
  • Roasts: 12–18 lbs
  • Stew meat: 3–5 lbs
  • Short ribs: 3–5 lbs
  • Brisket: 3–5 lbs
  • Soup/marrow bones: 2–4 lbs

These are estimates, not guarantees. You will not necessarily receive the maximum amount listed in every category.

The exact combination and quantity of cuts varies depending on the individual animal, trimming, bone-in vs. boneless cuts, and processing choices.

✅ Before You Order

We want you to know what to expect before reserving your quarter share.

Here’s what is important to know:

Your price is based on hanging weight.

The hanging weight is not the same as the final packaged weight you take home.

Every animal is different.

The actual weight of your quarter share will vary.

Your final packaged yield will be lower than the hanging weight.

Bones, fat, gristle, trimming, and moisture loss are part of the normal processing process.

We use 60% as a planning estimate for finished packaged yield.

This is an estimate only—not a guaranteed amount of meat.

Individual cut quantities are estimates.

The actual cuts and quantities you receive will vary.

A $1,500 deposit is required to reserve your quarter share.

Your deposit is applied toward your final purchase price.

Any remaining balance is due before delivery or release of your beef.

We’ll contact you when your beef is ready with your final weight, balance, and delivery information.

⚖️ Hanging Weight vs. Packaged Weight

Why don’t I get the same number of pounds that I’m charged for?

This is one of the most important things to understand when purchasing a quarter, half, or whole beef.

Our beef is priced by hanging weight.

Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after slaughter and initial dressing.

It is not the weight of the finished packages you put in your freezer.

During processing, weight is removed through:

  • Bones
  • Excess fat
  • Gristle and connective tissue
  • Trimming
  • Other portions that aren’t packaged as meat
  • Natural moisture loss during aging and processing

So, for example, a 175 lb hanging-weight quarter share will not result in 175 lbs of packaged beef.

That is normal and expected.

📦 How Much Beef Will I Actually Take Home?

For planning purposes, we’re using an estimated 60% finished yield from hanging weight.

This is an estimate—not a guarantee.

Using that estimate:

150 lbs hanging weight → approximately 90 lbs packaged beef

175 lbs hanging weight → approximately 105 lbs packaged beef

187.5 lbs hanging weight → approximately 113 lbs packaged beef

So your estimated 150–187.5 lb quarter share could result in approximately:

90–113 lbs of packaged beef

Your actual yield may be higher or lower.

Yield can vary depending on:

  • The individual animal
  • Fat content
  • Bone structure
  • Size and condition
  • Aging
  • Trimming
  • Cutting instructions
  • Bone-in vs. boneless cuts

The 60% figure is simply a planning estimate to help you understand what you may ultimately take home.

💰 Your $1,500 Deposit

$1,500 reserves your quarter share.

When you place your order, you pay a $1,500 deposit toward your final purchase price.

We use a set deposit rather than charging you for an estimated final weight because every animal is different.

Once your beef has been processed and the actual hanging weight is known, we’ll calculate your final price.

Your final price is calculated as:

Actual hanging weight × $11.50/lb = Final purchase price

Then:

Final purchase price − $1,500 deposit = Remaining balance

Based on our estimated weight range, your remaining balance could be approximately:

$225–$656.25

Your actual remaining balance will depend on the actual hanging weight of your quarter share.

🔒 Why Is the Deposit Non-Refundable?

We want to be upfront about this before you order.

When you place your order, your deposit reserves a quarter share of a beef animal specifically for you.

We then commit to purchasing, processing, packaging, and preparing that beef for your order.

Quarter shares are reserved and custom-processed for individual customers. Once your order is placed, that portion of the animal is committed to you rather than being regular inventory that can simply be returned to our shelves.

For that reason, the $1,500 deposit is non-refundable once the order is placed, except where required by applicable law.

Your deposit is not an additional charge.

Your $1,500 deposit is applied directly toward the final purchase price of your beef.

Our goal is to be completely transparent about this before you order so you know exactly how your purchase works.
